Frost

We tried a new doughnut shop this weekend in Mill Creek called Frost. Their graphics are enough for me, everything is color coordinated in pink & brown ~ love that!

Though we rarely eat doughnuts, it was fun to go in and pick one. Can you guess which one's mine? hehe They were pretty good!

Seattle Weekend

Nick and I had a great time this weekend. Saturday we just got things done, but yesterday we had some fun in the city.

First, we met Jenn and Josh at the Seattle Center for Urban Craft Uprising.

It was a nice show, not as big as I expected, but still a good time. We saw lots of familiar Etsy sellers. Here are a few of my favorite sellers that were at the show...

While we were at the Seattle Center, we thought we'd check out a few of the attractions there. We saw "The Fantastic World of Jim Henson" at Experience Music Project & took a stroll through the Science Fiction Museum.

Next door at the Pacific Science Center we saw an IMAX film and got to make an orca whale at the Mold-A-Rama machine! Remember those?

Waiting for the Cable Guy

Today we're getting TV, but I'm not really excited about it. We don't watch a lot of TV and we HATE cable. Unfortunately, when your house is surrounded by really tall tress, satellite isn't an option. sigh So, today I'm waiting for the cable guy. Expecting someone always throws off my schedule, I have lots of hallway trim to paint today. Anyway, while I wait, I thought I'd pop in and share a few more pictures from the new house and surrounding areas....

We were happy to learn that there is a little farmer's market at the shopping center by our house. We picked up this gorgeous bouquet for Jenn last weekend. (She makes a mean brunch.)

This weekend we headed over to Bainbridge Island for a barbecue. We love it over there, it's so much like Nova Scotia, and the weather was absolutely gorgeous!

I found my local quilt shop last week too, that's a relief. It's in a really cute little country village full of shops & cafe's and it's only about 10 minutes away. Perfect.


Nick put up my curtains in the sewing room, they really soften up that ugly aluminum window.


Yesterday I got this cute little pot of silk flowers for my window. I added the fabric trim this morning, the pot was just too white. Pretty cute, no?

Now I must get to work. No more fun stuff for me.

Still Here and Working On It

Hi, it's me again. I'm still digging through the mountain of boxes, but I had to stop in and say hello. I'll just share some quick piccies of what's going on here at the "Chocolate Box" (this house is soooooo brown).


I was very happy to find out that the tree outside my kitchen window is a Japanese Maple. Just what I wanted! Here's a view from the driveway.

It's not as grey and horrible in Seattle as people say it is. My house is generally very dark though - it faces East. This weird little built-in barbecue table in my kitchen enjoys the sunniest spot in the house. I think this area will be even sunnier when the table is removed along with the wood stove.

I painted most of the living room the other day. If you look above the window on the right you can see how much contrast there is from the new paint to the old. oops! The wall by the fireplace will be slightly bolder, I swear. I'm just happy to have all those books unpacked!

I did say I painted "most" of the living room. Ladders and I don't get along. That ceiling gets a little high. I need a tall, dark & handsome Englishman to help me complete the job. Hmm, Where can I get one of those?

I've got myself a little office space across the hall from my sewing room. One or both of my kitties is loving the bed in there when I'm at the computer. This will double as the guest room until I find time to paint and re-floor the bedroom downstairs.

My first sewing project in the new house - Sewing Room Curtains! They aren't hung yet, but at least they're made.

Back to work now, I'm making 3 Coupon Organizers for my shop. Don't worry, there's still lots of painting to do, I won't sew too much. :)

Getting Ready to Move

Nick and I are finally getting ready to make our move to the Seattle area. Yay!! We've been talking about this for about 3 years now so we're really excited that it's finally coming. We're buying a house and getting out of California (hopefully for good). I plan to get a moving company in to help out, but I'll be doing some of the packing myself.


I've already started going through my stuff to donate. I give away clothing like you wouldn't believe! I'm also going to be destashing my fabric supply. My new sewing room will be bigger, but I still want to lighten the load. I've got lots of flannel to put in the shop, so if you're in the market, stop by soon & see what's available.


In our new house, I'll be able to properly decorate my sewing room. I can't wait to be able to paint & hang shelves at will. To get myself into the mood, I made a new cover for the ironing board. The old one was a bit tired.



This fabric is a lot nicer and I had it on hand. I think it looks a lot better now and will copliment the new room. What a fun way to destash...use what you have! haha

Now I need to get back to work. As Nick said the other day, I'm in my element. I love to be busy and I love to plan! Wish us luck on the house too, we hope to be making the offer soon.

A Weekend in Seattle

Well, it was a quick weekend, but nice just the same. Nick and I looked at about 6 houses and saw a few more we liked. It was fun and it even snowed for us! We're really glad we decided to make the trip, we definitely accomplished some things. The only downside is that I didn't take a single photo! Can you believe that? haha

Don't worry, I may not have taken any pictures, but I brought home a couple new friends.

There's a great shop in the Seattle airport called Fireworks. They've got a little of everything so I enjoy a good browse each time we pass through (here's what I got last time). This weekend I found this adorable bunny. How could I resist a bunny in a striped cardigan? I'll be giving him away as a gift at some point.


I also brought home a little sock monkey. He's got somewhat angry eyes, but I love his striped appendages. He's got magnets in his hands & feet too. I think he'll enjoy hanging in my sewing room.

We were only there for two days but we packed a lot in. I have to thank Jenn for the burgers & cupcakes. We had such a yummy time!! See you soon. :)

Now I must get back to work. I need to get some new monkeys made for the shop.

Workin' At It

Guess what I got in the mail this week? Yes! Knitting looms. Thanks to Lisa, I had to try these. I took a knitting class a while back, but I haven't had much time to devote to mastering the needles. So, when I saw Lisa's posts on her looms I thought to myself, "hey, self, that looks like fun".

So, the other night I got out some thick brown yarn (yeah, I've got lots of brown yarn, so what!) and gave the tiniest loom a try.

Here's what I made, and it didn't even take me that long. It's a little boring in this color, but what newborn baby doesn't need a wooly hat?

I can always add to it and jazz it up a bit. What do you think?

I've also finally figured out a way to label my monkeys. I'm approaching the 600 mark and they're still not branded! Terrible. I'm gonna give these little Shrinky Dink buttons a try. I think they look pretty nice and they don't take long to sew on or make.

I've got loads of other little projects going on right now, these are just a few. I've got a bigger project in the works starting tomorrow. Nick and I are flying up to Seattle to begin the house hunting process. Hooray!!!! We might get to move soon. That's on of my goals coming close to completion. :) Have a great weekend, and wish us luck!

Superfriends

Well, I made it back from Seattle in one piece. We had a great time and the best part was finally meeting Jenn of Jenn Maruska Design, in person! I'd like to repeat everything she said. We hit it off right from the start, she's super nice and I'm so excited to have met her in real life. I'm so lucky to be one of the few people who actually knows what she looks like too, haha.

Jenn was nice enough to take me out to look for my wedding dress fabric. I don't think Nick & Josh enjoyed it as much as I did, but I found my fabric! It's exactly the color I was hoping for and I was able to get it on sale. Hooray!!! Now all I need is some shoes. I won't be able to cut or hem properly without them so I ordered these this morning, on sale. I may switch to these once the party is in full swing. Who looks at your feet anyway?


Nick & I really enjoyed Seattle. I think it's very likely that we'll be moving there in a year or so. It just seems to fit us. We were able to drive around a lot while we were there to see lots of different areas of the city. We took the ferry over to Bainbridge Island, which was beautiful. We were very lucky and had excellent weather the whole trip. I even found a little fabric store on the island, much to Nick's dismay. I tried to be quick and came out with a few treasures from Esther's Fabrics.

It's good to be home again and back to work. What? Did I say that?
