Get Cooking
So here we are, approaching a 3 day weekend, and I've got no plans. Nick & I might do a little quicky road trip tomorrow, but that's all that's on the books at the moment. I was thinking about breaking in the quintessential wedding gift....
Yes, I got a KitchenAid stand mixer, thanks Mom. I got a food processor too (thanks Bob!). How cool is that? And I don't want to leave out my Le Creuset from Amanda, something I've wanted for a long time but would never buy for myself. But do you see how that wonderful stuff is all packed into the cabinet above the fridge?
I just got my very first Barefoot Contessa cookbook, and a lovely breakfast cookbook from the Bed & Breakfast Nick & I stayed at in Victoria. I might try making some scones with the food processor this weekend, but I thought maybe you guys could give me some great recipes or tips to go with my new kitchen wonders. We're itching to get that mixer out of the box, so bring on the ideas please!
One more thing, my Aunt Kathy has been working on JPL's Phoenix Lander project for the past 4 years and it's scheduled to touch down this Sunday at about 4:53pm PST. So, if you're in to space & Mars etc. you might want to check it out on CNN. Have a great long weekend.

Quickie work-night dish:
------------------------
Boil 1/2 lb. of anelletti pasta (spaghetti-o shaped pasta found at trader joe's). Set aside.
In cast iron pot:
Brown italian sausage with onions and garlic. Add anything else you want (carrot, bell pepper, tomato, mushroom, etc) and cook until tender. Add 3 heaping handfulls of fresh spinach and wilt with 2 knobs of butter and fresh lemon juice. Add cooked pasta to the pot and combine with lots of fresh grated parmesan cheese.
Devour promptly and wonder why a dish so simple tastes so good. Oh, and serve with a small side salad :)
Your new Kitchen Aid Mixer belongs on the counter:) I couldn't live without mine, you are going to love it. Perhaps a quilted cover to coordinate with those sweet placemats you've been making with the Moda fabric bundle??
Have a great weekend!
Well, you got some pretty sweet gifts there lady!! I am so jealous of your stand mixer...that's been on my wish list for about 15 years now! lol You better get it out of the cupboard, like retrorugrats said, and put it out to use and enjoy. Heck, grab that bottle of Bailey's too and you'll really enjoy it!
Smiles, Karen
Wow! What wonderful gifts. I cant wait to see what you make with these "tools". If you need a crock pot recipe let me know!
If US scones are the same as antipodean scones I hope you're only planning to use your food processer for cutting the butter into the flour, not for mixing in the milk as you'll end up baking doorstops, not scones
See here for the vintage NZ scone recipe I use: http://theshoppingsherpa.blogspot.com/2006/03/ye-olde-newe-zealande-traditionale.html
