I Can See Clearly

This is the view from my driveway. The front of my house is actually on the side. The kitchen is on the end. It's very confusing. Until this past weekend, it was even more confusing.

There's a lot of space in front of the house and it was FILLED with overgrown rhododendrons. Now, rhoddies are the state flower of Washington. I don't know why because I can't seem to come up with something good about them. They're messy, sticky and ugly and only in bloom for about a week. And only two of ours did bloom.

I think the rhoddies in front of our house had been there for a very long time. There was one that was more like a tree, it was the ugliest one and the most visible. I've been saying we should remove them since we got here. The day finally came!!!

Here's what it looks like now when you come to my house. I think it looks a lot more like a path now. You might even think there's a front door down there. *sigh, I'm so happy

I definite improvement! Did you break out your muscles to tear them out? I know it had to been hard work! The new house we just got has the opposite problem you have. No landscaping! I have been a crazy person stealing seeds from perennial plants this fall. Hey, they are free!

Wow that is quite the transformation.
I'm so sad you didn't like the rhoddies. We've got a couple that mask the front of our house a bit, but when they bloom, I love the flowers, and the bees love them too. My lilac bush is similar - it doesn't bloom long but when it does it's gorgeous!

Great job though. You must have worked hard and it's great to make your house how you like it.
Are you going to keep the minimal look or are you going to add any new plants back into this space?

It's looking really good, Ginny! You are working on hard! I'm not a huge fan of rhoddies, either. I'm also in LeeAnn's situation, where we need more landscaping plants, not less.

It looks great! I bet that was quite a project! We pulled out one of three forsythia bushes and still want to get the third but it's a major understanding. I would imagine the rhoddies, especially the tree-like one, were a challenge!
